スーパーコンピューター処理性能ランキング「TOP500」の2024年11月版でAMD製チップを搭載した「El Capitan」が初めて1位を獲得しました。2位もAMD製の「Frontier」で、上位10台のうち5台がAMD製スーパーコンピューターとなりました。

El CapitanはAMDとアメリカのエネルギー省、ローレンス・リバモア国立研究所(LLNL)、ヒューレット・パッカード エンタープライズ(HPE)が共同開発しているスーパーコンピューターで、AMDのハイパフォーマンスコンピューティング(HPC)およびAI向けチップ「Instinct MI300A」をベースに構成されています。El Capitanは2エクサフロップスを超える処理性能を目指して研究開発が進んでおり、2024年11月には1.742エクサフロップスを記録して世界一のスーパーコンピューターとなりました。
